Found: Lost Pictures of New York Blizzard
When I first saw this story, the guy who found the film was still looking for its owners. It is completely amazing to me that he was able to locate them, halfway around the world in Paris!
What a fabulous adventure.

When there is nothing left to burn, you must set yourself on fire.
I took this some time in the summer of 2010 on our property. This photo always reminds me of this classic painting depicting the French Revolution called "Liberty Leading the Revolution" by Delacroix. I think it is the positioning of the tree against the firey sky that melds the two for me.

I am feeling very revolutionary myself these days. I feel like I need to overthrow everything, set the world on fire, completely change the way things are done in my life. Watch out, or next I might be yelling, "Off with your head!" and dancing the Carmagnole.

Cowboy take me away...

I took this early one morning when I was picking up some paperwork before work for the kiddos horseback riding lessons. He and I were the only ones up and about. He heard me drive up and had to come see what I was doing. He was probably sad that I wasn't there to give him a treat or take him out riding. Truth be told, I was sad that I wasn't there to give him a treat or take him out riding. Something else on my bucket list: Horseback riding lessons. I always wanted to be a barrel racer.

Found: Lost Pictures of New York Blizzard
I saw this very cool story about a canister of film found in NYC after the Christmas Blizzard. The finder of the film is looking for the photographer who dropped the canister of film. The photos are beautiful, I wish I had taken them!

Found Photos - The Work of Vivian Maier

This is the second story this week I've seen about found photos... this is an amazing story of a reclusive nanny who took thousands of photos, but never shared them with anyone. Eventually she left them all in a storage locker and never returned for them. Many years later, a man named John Maloof bought the photos at an auction on a whim. It is now his quest to share her photos with the world, and tell her story. It leaves me with so many questions though. Who could abandon such beautiful photos? What did they mean to her? And what do they mean to the photo community she was reluctant to join?
Above is my favorite one, posted on Maloof's blog. They say a picture says a thousand words... isn't the story the one above tells a beautiful one?
Visit John Maloof's blog to read more about Vivian and to see more her work.

Champagne supernova in the sky...
A summer 2009 photo that I think of as a star burst or a super nova.I just completed a two month show at Cianfranni Coffee Shop on the Square in Georgetown, Texas. I am now working on a series of plane photos to display and sell at the Georgetown Airport Airfest on September 25th. Previews to follow!

Bi-wing plane in HDR
I recently got to fly in this plane- it was a 30th Birthday present to myself! Very cool experience, even if it did turn my tummy upside down. This is my first attempt at HDR photography as well! Although, its kind of a "faux" HDR, since I didn't exactly follow the rules for real HDR.

I first heard of HDR photography in a podcast interview with Trey Ratcliff. He offers some excellent tutorials, and I will be shooting some HDR images soon. Watch this space for more.
In the meantime, check out Trey's blog http://www.stuckincustoms.com/ or click on the links on the right hand side of this page to check out his tutorials. He has great advice!

A Place to Think

This little green chair came from the animal shelter garage sale. I love this little green chair. I just stuck it out in the field and took about 50 photos of it. I love photos of things places they aren't supposed to be. I love this chair so much that I'm even working on a childrens story inspired by it. The first line is, "On top of a little green hill is a little green house. And in the little green house on top of the little green hill is a little green chair, where Sherman likes to sit." That's all I have so far... but I am sure there will be more to come soon.

I'm gonna let him fly...

Someone was recently telling me about the time period after his father's death. He said he kept seeing blackbirds everywhere he went, and he secretly felt like it was his father's way of checking in. Whenever he sees a blackbird now, he thinks of his dad. The phrase, "After his father died, he said he saw blackbirds everywhere he went" has been haunting me. I wanted to take a photo of a blackbird to capture that idea. I actually took this one earlier this week in the Taco Bell parking lot. Blackbirds everywhere I go... haunting me.
Hot Air Balloons

I took this photo from our front yard last fall. There are often hot air balloons flying early in the morning. I can always tell when there are hot air balloons out because my dog Barkley has a certain bark she reserves for them. She really, really, really hates hot air balloons! On that note, flying in one is on my bucket list. I hope to do that soon!
